Qatar has taken all necessary steps to ensure food security – Al Subaie

The Minister of Municipality of Qatar, HE Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, has stated that Qatar, under the directives of His Highness the Emir of State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, attaches paramount importance to developing the economic sectors in general and the agricultural sector in particular, as they are essential to achieving food security in the country.

Qatar has taken all necessary steps to ensure food security - Al SubaieIn his speech at the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition and Qatar International Environmental Exhibition at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, Al Subaie said the ministry, as part of its relentless quest towards achieving the state’s goals, has taken all measures to ensure food security, one of the main objectives the state seeks to achieve in the renaissance the country is experiencing at all levels.

Increasing local production is one way the Ministry of Municipality contributes effectively to food security by developing the agricultural sector and fostering sustainable development. According to him, local production reduces the gap between production and consumption, increasing self-sufficiency in agricultural products.

As he explained, Qatar’s strategy for agriculture and food security is based on achieving self-sufficiency and is guided by the wisdom of its wise leadership and Qatar National Vision 2030, which strives to achieve self-sufficiency in the state in all aspects of food by holding international exhibitions that are a platform for farmers, producers, interested parties, production companies and consumers.
